INSTALLATION ISSUES
1. HANDBOOK. To access the Handbook, your PC must have a PDF
viewer, so we provide one. If the installation routine does not
detect a PDF viewer on your PC, by default it will install
Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 4.05 (requires about 7 MB of
space on your hard drive). The README.PDF file in the Adobe
Acrobat Reader directory describes its features.
The Handbook PDF was created using Adobe Acrobat version 4.0
and is not backward compatible with previous versions of Adobe
Acrobat Reader. If the setup program detects an earlier
version of Adobe Acrobat Reader it will by default install
version 4.05. If you choose not to upgrade your Reader, you
should not install the Handbook but rather view it directly
from the CD-ROM. For users of Adobe Acrobat Reader version
3.0x, the CD-ROM contains a version of the Handbook created
specifically for this version. The file is located on the
CD-ROM at D:\HANDBOOK\VERSION3\0Cont_v3.pdf (Substitute the
correct letter if the CD-ROM drive on your system uses a letter
other than D.)
2. SETUP.EXE file on this disk is the actual installation program
for the entire CD-ROM. As you follow the instructions, you will
be given these options:
a. Typical (Installs Adobe Acrobat Reader, if not already on
your system, and the icons need to access the Handbook.)
b. Compact (Installs only icons needed to access the
Handbook from the CD-ROM).
c. Full (Installs Adobe Acrobat Reader, if not already on
your system, and copies the Handbook onto your hard
drive.)
3. NETWORKS. This CD-ROM is intended to be installed on stand-
alone PCs. The Handbook can be installed on networked PCs
with the following restrictions:
a. The Handbook can be installed on a networked PC that has
previously been configured to view PDF files. The setup
program will automatically detect this viewer and use it
to access the proceedings files. If no PDF viewer is
detected, the setup default will install Adobe Acrobat
Reader as long as the user has write privileges to the
Windows directory. However, the network administrator
may prefer to install Adobe Acrobat Reader on a shared
network drive.

UNINSTALLATION ISSUES: WINDOWS NT 4.0
With Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0, the installation creates a
folder containing shortcuts to the installed applications. For
convenience, this folder is opened at the close of the install
process. In Windows NT 4.0, this folder must be closed before
running the uninstall program. If the uninstall program is run
while this folder is open, the main installation folder will not
be removed automatically and will have to be deleted manually.
